Reduce PST file size in Outlook 2000
Outlook acts as a Personal Information Manager that stores important documents of users such as emails, appointments, tasks, notes, journals, contacts etc. in a safe manner. But the file size limit varies with the versions of Outlook. Outlook 2002 and the earlier versions support 2GB PST file size limit but 2002 and the above has the capacity to store up to 20 GB of data. So, when the PST files exceed its limit, you need to reduce PST files.
Suppose a situation where you are using Outlook 2000 and trying to access the data stored within PST files but the following error message appears on the screen stating:
“PST file has reached its maximum size limit.”
As the error clearly indicates that the PST files has reached the maximum size limit in Outlook 2000 i.e. 2GB so, in order to fix this issue you need to reduce PST file size to a considerable extent.
Solution:
To resolve the error occurred above, you need to compact the oversized PST file by using following steps:
Go to File menu and choose the option of Data File Management
The next step is to select the data file which you are in need to compact and go to Settings option
There click on the ‘Compact Now’ button in order to reduce the large sized PST files.
Archiving may also be performed in which useless documents are deleted and the important ones are transferred to a newly created file.
But none of the above solutions work, then its better to go for PST Splitter tool that is highly capable to divide the large volume Outlook files in smaller partitions on the basis of several standards like by date, size, folders and more. Along with this, the splitting is done in least amount of time period.
